Kinetics of fragmentation-annihilation processes.

چکیده
We investigate the kinetics of systems in which particles of one species undergo binary fragmentation and pair annihilation. In the latter, non-linear process, fragments react at collision to produce an inert species, causing loss of mass. We analyse these systems in the reaction-limited regime by solving a continuous model within the mean-field approximation. The rate of fragmentation, for a particle of mass x to break into fragments of masses y and x− y, has the form x (λ > 0), and the annihilation rate is constant and independent of the masses of the reactants. We find that the asymptotic regime is characterized by the annihilation of small-mass clusters, with the cluster-density decaying as in pure-annihilation and the average cluster-mass as in pure-fragmentation. The results are compared with those for a model with linear mass-loss (i.e. with a sink rather than a reaction). We also study more complex models, in which the processes of fragmentation and annihilation are controlled by mutually-reacting catalysts. Both pairand linearannihilation are considered. Depending on the specific model and initial densities of the catalysts, the time-decay of the cluster-density can now be very unconventional and even non-universal. The interplay between the fragmentation and annihilation processes and the existence of a scaling regime are determined by the asymptotic behaviour of the average-mass and of the mass-density, which may either decay indefinitely or tend to a constant value. We discuss further developments of this class of models and their potential applications. PACS: 05.20.-y, 02.50.Ey, 82.20.-w email: [email protected]. A Numerical Simulation Study on the Kinetics of Asphaltene Particle Flocculation in a Two-dimensional Shear Flow
In the current study, the kinetics of asphaltene particle flocculation is investigated under a shear flow through numerical simulation. The discrete element method (DEM) is coupled with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model the agglomeration and fragmentation processes. In addition, a coalescence model is proposed to consider the attachment of colliding particles. The changes in mean asph...
متن کاملGlobal analysis of hadron-production data in ee annihilation for determining fragmentation functions
Fragmentation functions of pion, kaon, and nucleon are determined by global analyses of hadronproduction data in ee annihilation. It is particularly important that uncertainties of the fragmentation functions are estimated for the first time. We found that light-quark and gluon fragmentation functions have large uncertainties, so that one should be careful in using these functions for hadron-pr...
متن کاملPhenomenology of Power Corrections in Fragmentation Processes in e+e− Annihilation
We analyse power corrections to longitudinal and transverse fragmentation processes in ee annihilation, based on the assumption of ultraviolet dominance of power corrections. Under this assumption, we determine the dependence of power corrections on the scaling variable x from the infrared renormalon asymptotics of leading power coefficient functions. Our results suggest that the longitudinal a...
متن کاملJet fragmentation in e + e − annihilation
A short review of theoretical and experimental results on fragmentation in e + e − annihilation is presented. Starting with an introduction of the concept of fragmentation functions in e + e − annihilation, aspects of scaling violation, multiplicities, small and large x, longitudinal, gluon, light and heavy quark fragmentation are summarized.
متن کاملMeson B fragmentation function with consideration of mass corrections
Study of B meson (meson with the bottom quark flavor) in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is of special importance so that the detector LHCb is devoted to investigate these types of mesons. For this reason, in this paper we will study the production process of this meson in a phenomenological approach using the experimental data from electron-positron annihilation. In this regards, we shall calculat...
